It’s not Sunday, but it’s a holiday, so that counts. More time for lounging on the porch with Babykins, eating celebratory donuts, and enjoying the gorgeous weather here in Boston. So here’s what I’m up to in terms of reading and cooking:
What I’m reading now: Claire Messud’s The Woman Upstairs
“Sirena, on the other hand, is engaged with the life force. We all want that, really. It’s what attracts us: someone who opens doors to possibility, to the barely imagined. Someone who embraces the colors and textures, the tastes and transformations — someone who embraces, period. We’re all after what’s juicy, what breathes.”
“And here’s the weird thing: her existence as an ideal woman artist didn’t feel as though it thwarted or controlled me, I didn’t look at her and think, ‘Why are you almost famous and I’m only your helper?’ I don’t recall having the thought even once. Instead, I looked at her and saw myself, saw what suddenly seemed possible for me, too, because it was possible for her.”

David and I also watched Spotlight, the 2016 Oscar winner for Best Picture. We watch movies so infrequently, but this one was fabulous. It also resonated for us as we both have backgrounds in writing for newspapers.

Monday: July 4th grilling – bratwurst
Tuesday: Tuna melts
Wednesday: Tuna melts (again)
Thursday: Grilling outside – bratwurst
Friday: Grilling outside – cheeseburgers & asparagus
