Sunday Morning Coffee: February 9, 2020

It’s been a full, big week. Productive, but still a lot. I spent Saturday at the JFK library with a group of my peers and program administrators; it was a beautiful venue for the day, and I can’t believe I’ve never been before. Then David and spent the evening out to dinner. Having worked in restaurants for several years in college, I avoid going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day or Valentine’s Day weekend — I feel restaurants are always too crowded and service is overloaded. Most restaurants print up limited special menus that just reflect fewer choices and higher prices. We’ll cook at home instead, and I’ll try to do something special (though what that is exactly is TBD).

Here’s what I’ve been enjoying this week:

What I’ve Been Reading This Week:

This interview with Kristin Meinzer, host of By The Book, a podcast I really like.

Watched the Taylor Swift Netflix documentary this week and I’d actually totally recommend it (and I agree that the parts that stuck with me were the same mentioned in this Washington Post article).

We have a copy of The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler on our shelves, and I’m hoping to read it with Charlotte soon. Is 5 too early for chapter books? Not sure how well she’ll tolerate the longer narrative with no pictures.

This wasn’t me at 25: saving 100k in your 20s

But I do have a KitchenAid mixer.

What I’ve Been Cooking This Week:

Sunday: butternut squash galette with roasted broccoli (loosely based on this one)
Monday: Olive-brined pork with white beans (highly recommend, especially for olive fans)
Tuesday: Leftovers
Wednesday: Ordered pizza (we were exhausted)
Thursday: Leftovers
Saturday: Out to dinner at Woods Hill Pier 4 — our favorite bites were the parsnip tartine and the potato puree with duck confit.

  1. I know a family that has been reading the Harry Potter chapter books to their 5-yr-old for a while now. So I’d say try out the Mixed Up Files!
