Sunday Morning Coffee: July 19, 2020

I spent last weekend at an al fresco picnic along the river. The weather was great, and everyone was (mostly) appropriately socially distanced and masked. We know masks help and are our best shot at getting through the worst of this pandemic and mitigating future death and economic damage. **Wear a mask!**

I’ve spent the week being more productive than I’ve felt in awhile. I think part of that is coming from finding somewhat of a rhythm in my schedule with the kids at home and a little bit because I can feel the countdown to fall coming and know that’s going to be a lot to try to manage with the logistics and uncertainty around school & childcare, paired with the absolute certainty that my academic workload will increase by 100%.

What I’ve Been Reading & Enjoying Recently:

Body Image Through Stages of Life

A bit about “the letter” in Harper’s

Relationship expert Esther Perel on hunkering down and being cooped up with her husband during the pandemic. She also has two podcasts: one on relationships and one on work.

Another podcast, Her Money with Jean Chatzky, on how our shopping habits are changing (which is also an interview with the publisher of that interview with Alison Roman). And now there’s also a follow-up interview.

That clip is the second by Ziwe I’ve watched this week.

On the lighter side: what quarantine cleaning personality are you?

It’s been done by everyone already, but I’ve spent some time thinking about some updates to my living space and read this: Six Ideas that Changed the Way I Decorate My Home

My kids are loving watermelon this summer (and every summer, really): how to pick a good one.

David and I also just started watching the show Dead to Me on Netflix.

What I’ve Been Cooking This Week:

Sunday: Vivian Howard’s blueberry BBQ chicken
Monday: Back Pocket Pasta‘s quick sausage sugo and Susan Spungen’s famous kale salad from Open Kitchen (the cookbook recipe doesn’t have Brussels sprouts)
Tuesday: Leftovers
Wednesday: Sugar snap pea chicken salad — this was excellent for dinner, and we turned the leftovers into wraps for lunch the rest of the week — highly recommend!
Thursday: Dorie Greenspan’s mustard tart (which David loved), along with leftover salad
Friday: Leftovers
Saturday: Shrimp & chickpeas with chermoula (recipe also by Susan Spungen’s Open Kitchen cookbook)

Coming up this week:

  • Peaches & cous cous
  • Rosemary chicken tagliatelle
