Valentine’s day came and went this weekend. I hope everyone who celebrates had a lovely time, and for those who find the holiday to be a bit of a bummer, know that you’re in good company. David and I celebrated with just a slightly elevated home-cooked meal. After years of working in restaurants, I now avoid going out to restaurants this week because it tends to be overpriced and crowded. Those special limited Valentine’s menu tend to be a pared down selection from the standard menu to minimize surprises in a hectic kitchen (though some places do go out of their way to make the evening special). Anyway, life as it is right now means we’re focusing on transitioning Will out of the crib and into his big-kid bed, conserving our energy in case we have our own sleep-disrupting surprises.
Here’s what I’ve been reading and cooking this week:
What I’ve Been Reading This Week:
This weekend snuck up on me a bit, and I feel I don’t have as much to share as I usually to, but here goes:
21 tips to improve your cooking (I can vouch for most of these!)
50 books about love stories, one for each state (I really liked the one for Minnesota, and I’ve never heard of the one for Massachusetts)
This is a problem: The doctors who bill you while you’re unconscious
My favorite perfumes in the past few years have all been from the Royal Apothic company… I didn’t realize they went out of business for awhile, but they’re back up and running, just in time because I need to reorder.
What I’ve Been Cooking This Week:
Sunday: Ground turkey + bean tacos, Spanish rice, avocado, and Southwestern chopped salad, shared with my sister and her husband
Monday: Bacon, onion, and gruyere homemade pizza, roasted broccoli on the side
Tuesday: Quesadillas (made from leftover taco filling)
Wednesday: David cooked pasta fagioli soup
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Valentine’s Day dinner of rosemary & garlic steak, mashed potatoes (made with some of the garlic from the steaks, which was a good idea!), and sauteed green beans, and prosecco
Saturday: at my friend Jen’s house, she made fajitas with chicken, peppers & onions, and cilantro rice
