Sunday Morning Coffee: July 14, 2019

Boston has seen a lot of hot weather this week, so I’m grateful for the chance to get away to the Green Mountains of Vermont this weekend. My sisters and I had a long weekend together, just the three of us. It’s been ages since I’ve been away from my kids that long, and they’ve been super affectionate since I came back home this afternoon.

The time away was so restful and restorative; I’m trying to figure out how to have that impact linger. When I’m away, I miss the creativity and conversation of my work, but I also enjoy not feeling tied to completing things. It also felt like an amazing luxury to have dinner out at restaurants and beers by the river knowing I wasn’t “on” as someone’s mom just that moment.

What I’m Reading and Liking This Week

Goodreads’ list of the most-read books of the year, thus far. Kinda glad to see Harry Potter showing up (more than once!).

A 50-year summary on the New York Times of the “it” books of the summer.

Conversation advice from NPR’s Terry Gross.

I’m currently reading Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb and am loving it so far.

Curious to try these corn, goat cheese, and basil quesadillas (but not sure they’ll make it onto this week’s menu)

My husband and I are starting to watch the show Fleabag on Amazon Prime

What I’m Cooking This Week

Weekly Menu Plan (in case you need ideas or inspiration):
Sunday: Grilling more bratwurst with a side of corn salad
Monday: Spaghetti with meatballs (per C’s request)
Tuesday: Goat cheese & asparagus quiche (made the night before to avoid heating up the kitchen)
Wednesday: Leftovers
Thursday: pre-race smoothie (I ran a 5k that evening with my sisters), then out to dinner at Viale: the beginning of a long weekend!
Friday: Pesto pasta with shrimp (made by my sister Claire)
Saturday: Dinner at The Downtown Grocery in Ludlow, VT
